Gallipolis Lafayette Bicentennial
This is a public event. No admission.
The main event of the Lafayette Bicentennial in Gallipolis, Ohio, will begin promptly at noon at the corner of First Avenue and State Street with cannon fire and bugle fanfare to kick off the re-creation of General Lafayette’s arrival and welcome address from the stoop of the historic home at the corner, now known as the event venue, First & State.
Immediately following the welcome address, several chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution will inspire the crowd with a flag ceremony. Lafayette, played by the renowned Michael Halbert, with an entourage of other notable re-enactors will move to the main stage in the Gallipolis City Park where there will be a multi-school band and show choir concert with talented musicians and singers from River Valley, Gallia Academy, and South Gallia performing period pieces.
Witness the apron ceremony from the Morning Dawn Masonic Lodge, the first lodge chartered in the state of Ohio in 1810, and be there for the dedication of a new official Ohio State Historic Marker commemorating Lafayette’s visit.
During the concert, Bossard Library and the Gallia-Vinton Education Service Center will be hosting period-inspired Kids Games on the opposite side of the park.
Stroll by the bandstand at the center of the park for a meet and greet and photos with Lafayette and the other historic figure re-enactors.
