Raccoon Creek Side Cottage, LLC is owned by proprietors Flem and Donna DeWitt-Meade. The cottage is appropriately named “Meade-Me-at-the-Dam” in honor of the family name and the fact that it overlooks a dam on Raccoon Creek. It officially opened for business in the summer of 2014. The original structure dates back over 65 years. The new construction has resulted in a quaint little cottage perfect for a couple to celebrate life’s special occasions or to simply step back in time and enjoy a relaxing get-away for the weekend or a weeknight or two. The site next door where the Vinton Mill once stood dates back to the early 1800’s but is now home to a patio, pergola and fire pit area.
The rental cottage has one bedroom and caters primarily to couples celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary, or other special occasion. However, it is ideal for SMALL informal or formal outdoor gatherings or celebrations, such as weddings, receptions, and office parties. Sliding glass doors along the back of the cottage allow for an exceptional view of Raccoon Creek and Vinton Dam. Let the sound of the water rolling over the falls relax you as you read a good book, throw a fishing line in the water, or simply take a nap. The pergola at the old mill site or the back yard along the creek with the Morgan’s Raid Suspension Bridge in the background would make an ideal location for a small intimate wedding.
The kitchen is fully equipped and boasts a one-of-a-kind horseshoe bar made from hickory with a walnut top and custom hickory cabinets. The living room has a vaulted knotty pine ceiling, electric fireplace, and a 50″ TV (antennae tv channels only). The bedroom has a queen size (Simmons Beautyrest mattress) bed and a custom made knotty pine armoire which is perfect for keeping your clothes neat and organized during your stay. The master bathroom has a large tile shower for two, a claw foot free standing tub, and a LG steam washer and dryer. A half bath is located off the kitchen/living room.
